Application: Admission requirements for the Master's degree program - Selection procedure

The formal admission requirement is a good Bachelor’s degree in a suitable field.

There is no numerus clausus (NC), instead an internal university selection procedure decides on your admission.

This essentially consists of an examination of the formal admission requirements and a personal interview with the head of department of the respective degree program.

Professional and language requirements

  • M.A. Artificial Intelligence and Societies

    Professional requirements: Undergraduate degree (university/university of applied sciences).

    Language requirements: Very good knowledge of English is required but does not need to be proven. Language of instruction: English

  • M.A. Digital Journalism

    Professional requirements: Undergraduate degree in the humanities (university/university of applied sciences), preferably with a focus on sports/medicine/psychology, economics/social sciences, languages/communication/journalism/media

    Language requirements: For admission to studies in German or English, the following language certificates in the respective teaching language are required for non-native speakers: (Cologne: German, Berlin, Frankfurt/Main: English): Level C1 (European Framework of Reference)

    Dual studies: For students who do not yet have a company, German language skills at B2 level are required at the time of application to the MU (proof of Goethe or Telc language certificate)

  • M.A. International Marketing and Mediamanagement

    Professional requirements: Undergraduate degree in general or specialized economics or social sciences (university/university of applied sciences)

    Proof of acquisition of at least 20 credit points in economics subjects.

    Language requirements: For non-native speakers, the following language certificates in the respective teaching language are required for admission to studies in German or English (Cologne: German, Berlin, Frankfurt/Main: English): Level B2 (European Framework of Reference)

    Dual studies: For students who do not yet have a company, German language skills at B2 level are required at the time of application to the MU (proof of Goethe or Telc language certificate)

  • M.A. Communication Design and Creative Strategies

    Professional requirements: Undergraduate degree (university/university of applied sciences/university of art or academy of fine arts) in a creative field, preferably design or art

    Language requirements: For admission to the course in German or English, the following language certificates in the respective teaching language are required for non-native speakers (Cologne: German, Berlin, Frankfurt/Main: English): Level B2 (European Framework of Reference)

    Dual studies: For students who do not yet have a company, German language skills at B2 level are required at the time of application to the MU (proof of Goethe or Telc language certificate)

    Design portfolio: Applicants for the M.A. Communication Design and Creative Strategies are required to submit a portfolio with at least three independent design projects.

  • M.A. Public Relations and Digital Marketing

    Professional requirements: Basic humanities degree in communications, media or marketing (university/university of applied sciences).

    Language requirements: For admission to the course in German or English, the following language certificates are required for non-native speakers in the respective language of instruction

    Teaching language: (Cologne: German, Berlin, Frankfurt/Main: English) Prerequisite: Level C1 (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages, CEFR)

    Dual studies: For students who do not yet have a company, German language skills at B2 level are required at the time of application to the MU (proof of Goethe or Telc language certificate)

  • M.A. Visual and Media Anthropology

    Professional requirements: Undergraduate degree (university/university of applied sciences) in any subject plus at least one year of subsequent professional experience (internships, employment, projects). This professional experience should relate to the completed degree or include practical media experience.

    Language requirements: Very good knowledge of English is required but does not need to be proven. Teaching language: English

  • M.Sc. Business Psychology

    Professional requirements: A good degree in general or specialized studies (university/university of applied sciences) in psychology or in a business or social science discipline

    Proof of at least 20 credit points in psychological subjects and at least 10 credit points in statistical/methodological subjects.

    Please note: If you do not have the required credit points in these areas, you can acquire them after consultation within a previous semester or within the first semester, as long as there are no overlaps in teaching times from the first semester.

    For a total of 10 CP Statistics/Methodology:

    • Statistics I (5 CP)
    • Psychological Methodology (5 CP) For a total of 20 CP Fundamentals of Psychology:
    • Fundamentals of Psychology (5 CP)
    • Fundamentals of Business Psychology (5 CP)
    • Psychological market and media research (5 CP)
    • Media Psychology (5 CP)

    Please note the fees for CP to be made up.

Please use the online application form and attach your CV as a PDF.

You will receive confirmation of receipt of your application by e-mail with a request to send us the following application documents by e-mail:

  • Letter of motivation
  • Your university entrance qualification
  • your degree certificate from your undergraduate degree program (Bachelor, Magister, Diplom etc.)
  • plus Diploma Supplement (EU only). If you do not yet have the degree certificate from your
  • undergraduate degree program, please send us a current grade transcript instead and submit the certificate later.
  • Proof of your academic achievements in the undergraduate degree program (Transcript of Records): Credit points and module content descriptions (in German or English)
  • In the case of a foreign (technical) university entrance qualification, state recognition* of equivalence to the German (technical) Abitur
  • in the case of a foreign undergraduate degree, an authorized translation of the certificate, if applicable
  • for non-native speakers of German or English: proof of language competence in German or English at least at CEFR level B2 (exception C1 for the degree programs M.A. Digital Journalism and M.A. Public Relations and Digital Marketing)
  • If applicable, further proof of competencies and qualifications relevant to your studies, such as training and further education, professional experience, etc.

Please bring certified copies* of your university entrance qualification and your degree certificate from your undergraduate degree program plus Diploma Supplement (EU only) to your personal appointment.

*They are available from the Certificate Recognition Office of the Berlin Senate Administration, Uni-Assist or other service providers. The costs for the certificate evaluation by Uni-Assist in the amount of 75 euros will be reimbursed by the Media University after enrollment and upon presentation of the original payment receipt!
