Satoru Niwa: Photojournalist and recent graduate of the M.A. Visual and Media Anthropology.

Satoru Niwa has worked as a photojournalist before as well as alongside his master's degree in Visual and Media Anthropology. With his work, he wants to draw attention to urgent social issues. In his thesis, for example, he investigated socio-spatial exclusion and homelessness in his hometown Tokyo. Gemma Lynch is in her 3rd semester studying the Distance Learning program Visual and Media Anthropology at HMKW Berlin.

Gemma Lynch has been passionate about visual storytelling since she was a teenager. She spent almost 10 years working in various roles in the film/television industry and was Head of Production for the Fondazione Sardegna Film Commission for 5 years. With her studies in Visual and Media Anthropology at Media University Berlin, she now has the chance to enhance her practical skills with a theoretical background. Samantha Fox, 2010 VMA graduate

Samantha Fox successfully completed her Master's degree in Visual and Media Anthropology (VMA) in 2010, at that time at the Freie Universität Berlin. The master's program was developed there and has been offered at Media University Berlin since winter term 2019/20. In the interview she talks about her current work as an assistant professor in the field of Urban Anthropology, her current book project and how she was able to benefit from her studies.
