Aesthetic judgments of Artificial Intelligence

Prof. Dr. Jan-Henning Raff from Media University Berlin attended an AI Innovation Camp at the end of March. In addition to inspiration and insights into the AI ​​field of machine vision, the head of Media University Berlin’s Design Department also got the prospect of an exciting cooperation.

At the end of March, the innovation camp focusing on Artificial Intelligence (AI) organized by the Competence Center for the Cultural and Creative Industries of the Federal Government took place in Berlin. The head of Media University Berlin’s Design Department Prof. Dr. Jan-Henning Raff attended the two-and-a-half-day congress as a participant. In the workshop on AI and aesthetics with Mobius Labs it was examined how a machine can be trained to make aesthetic judgments – keyword “machine or computer vision”. Prof. Raff tested how aspects of graphic design can be examined, above all composition principles. The result: The machine is learning fast! Furthermore, he used the innovation camp as a platform to kick start a future research cooperation.
