Excursion to the World Usability Day in Cologne
On November 14, the students of the “Interactive Media” module in the game design and interactive media degree programs as well as the graphic design and visual communication degree program had the opportunity to take part in the 20th World Usability Day at the renowned agency “denkwerk” in Cologne. Led by Prof. Jutta Zylka, the group attended the event, which was all about usability and its influence on digital and analog design. The excursion not only offered valuable insights, but was also an inspiring encounter with a future-oriented design community, which is supported by the creative atmosphere at “denkwerk” – an agency where two MU alumni also work.
The focus was on four lectures in particular:
“The world as usability – news from the sustainable impacts of analog and digital design”,
“All users are stupid” by Christoph Kolb,
“How can AI be used to develop positive images of the future?” by Sandra Griffel-Ripperger and Susanne Junglas and
“Level up for engagement” by Thomas Junk.
The topics of these lectures provided the students with exciting food for thought and encouraged them to reflect on the role of usability and design in the digital age.
The excursion is embedded in the semester theme “Your Future is now” and forms the thematic framework for the “Interactive Media” module. Here, the graphic design students develop a website prototype, while the game design students design a concept document for a game and a first level in the Unreal Engine.
