Media University professor Maren Urner on two panels at the 16th International Journalism Festival (IJF) in Perugia
The 16th International Journalism Festival (IJF) took place in Perugia, Italy, from April 6th to 10th. Media University professor Dr. Maren Urner presented and discussed the future of journalism with international guests on two panels.
The International Journalism Festival (#ijf22) in Perugia, Italy, sponsored by the Google News Initiative, Meta and the Open Society Foundations, among others, once again gathered thousands of international journalists and interdisciplinary experts after a two-year break due to the pandemic. Among the speakers was Prof. Dr. Maren Urner, who teaches and researches at Media University in the departments of Psychology as well as Journalism and Communication. Together with Christina Elmer (TU Dortmund), Meera Selva (Reuters Institute Oxford) and Alexander Sängerlaub (Bonn Institute), the neuroscientist discussed the challenges of sustainable journalism on the panel “How to fight your biased brain”, especially in view of the climate crisis and democracy. The day before, she sat with Paul Nemitz (European Commission), Martin Moore (Kings College London) and Damian Tambini (London School of Economics) on the panel “Regulating Big Tech for Democracy” and contributed her cognitive psychological perspective on questions of responsibility and regulation of platforms.
