January 29, 2019

“Stories with studies” was the topic of the dissertation which Dr. Jens Derksen, Global Media Relations Lead, Applied Intelligence at Accenture, presented at the fourth PR Evening at Media University Berlin.

At the beginning of January, the fourth edition and the first in 2019 of the event series “PR Evening” took place in Media University Berlin’s Media Lounge. Guest speaker Dr. Jens Derksen, Global Media Relations Lead, Applied Intelligence at Accenture, talked about “Stories with studies: the production of attention with ranking surveys and statistics in journalism and PR”. For his doctoral research studies at the University of Leipzig, Dr. Derksen had analyzed hundreds of studies published in newspaper articles. He explained that most of the studies published on the media are generated by the media themselves. “We as communication professionals in the system of the public and public media have a certain level of responsibility. And a key responsibility that we have, is that we should resist the temptation to generate ,alternative facts’ that feed any kind of filter bubbles with studies”, he said to invite all PR professionals and journalists to be responsible when it comes to generating and publishing studies.
