Prof. Nora Bibel wins at the Kuala Lumpur International Photoawards
Media University congratulates the Berlin photography professor on making first place in the photo story category of the Malaysian photo competition, which has been awarding outstanding portrait photography on an international level for ten years now.
Prof. Nora Bibel teaches photography at Media University Berlin as part of the curriculum of B.A. Graphic Design and Visual Communication as well as M.A. Communication Design. “Family Comes First” is the title of this body of work, which she submitted to the award committee.
The series was taken as part of an artist scholarship from the Goethe-Institut Max Müller Bhavan Bangalore at the end of 2014. The images were first exhibited in 2016 at the Galerie am Rathaus Tempelhof, Berlin.
A total of 40 portraits of Indian families are included in the photo series. Prof. Nora Bibel shows the individuals wearing traditional attire. Her work aims to highlight the importance of the traditional extended family in the context of modern, urban India and to examine the family member’s relationships with one another.
All finalists and winning entries of the competition will be showcased in an exhibition from September 8 – 17. “Family Comes First” has also been published as a photo book.
