Virtual field trip to different media companies
On June 17th and 18th, about 35 Master students of Media University Berlin and Cologne, accompanied by their professors Dr. Ingo Knuth and Dr. Boris Alexander Becker, went on a virtual field trip to the Cities of Hamburg and Cologne.
In the module “Emerging Media Markets” Prof. Dr. Ingo Knuth and Prof. Dr. Boris Alexander Becker had invited their students of the M.A. International Marketing and Media Management to a virtual filed trip to well-known companies from the media and tech business. The aim of this two-day “virtual trip”, which was the first to be realized across different locations, was to give insight into the business models and strategies in “New Media Markets” of innovative media and technology companies.
The first stop was the SPIEGEL Verlag in Hamburg, where the students learned about digital products that are currently being developed. For this purpose, SPIEGEL employees gave insights into project and innovation management in a publishing house.
As a second company, the students visited the RTL Interactive based in Cologne, in which the RTL Group bundles its digital and transaction-based businesses.
The next stop was the company Xing / New Work SE, based in Hamburg, which gave the students a detailed insight into the various business areas and platforms operated by the group. In particular, the topic of employer branding was focused and the students also received tips for developing their personal career.
At the end of the course, the students went to Hamburg again, to visit nextMedia.Hamburg, a local initiative for the Hamburg media and digital business. During the lecture, various innovative business models from the media industry were presented and future developments were discussed.
During this virtual trip, the students from both locations also took the opportunity to get to know each other.
