Berlin: Conclusion of the DW project week
As every semester, the project week took place at the Media University Berlin at the beginning of June, this time with cooperation partner Deutsche Welle.
From June 1-10, more than one hundred students from various years and departments worked in small groups on six assignments for Germany’s international broadcaster.
Together with Media University teachers, DW journalists supervised the students, who were able to benefit from their many years of practical experience. Among them were the world-famous DW-TV presenter Amrita Cheema, innovation manager Christoph Hartmann, format developer and head of DW-TV’s news program Hans Helmich, Stefan Robiné, responsible for documentaries and co-productions, and Rodrigo Rimon Abdelmalack, journalist and social media contact at Deutsche Welle.
After the final presentations of all groups and subject areas, the winning team was honored. Students Sara Bianco and Mike-Adam Tworke from the B.A. Journalism and Corporate Communication and Julia Heinzl, Lena Janovics and Nadja Schleif from the B.A. Media and Business Psychology were able to impress the jury with their approach to instant messaging.
Accompanied by Prof. Dr. Jasper Friedrich and Rodrigo Abdelmalack, the group developed an instant messaging concept “for the small message hunger in between”. Ideas for the use of instant messaging services for the English-language “DW News” were presented and a program was accompanied by a suitable IM service as an example. Quality criteria and principles in the use of IM were explained by the students before the selected service was analyzed, empirically tested and evaluated.
The winning team will soon be able to present their results in DW’s in-house format “Made by Minds”.
