Final spurt for the Erasmus+ GAMIFY project
This year, the Erasmus+ project GAMIFY, led by the Media University in collaboration with Complutense University of Madrid, Design School Kolding and HHL Leipzig, is entering its third and final phase. Recently, Media University lecturers Prof. Henning Breuer and Kiril Ivanov participated in the presentation of the latest results of the project in the 32nd edition of the ISPIM conference, which took place as a virtual event in Berlin.

The first day of the conference started with a presentation by Dr. Sandra Dijk and Prof. Dr. Claudia Lehmann from HHL Leipzig, who talked about the different challenges they faced when implementing gamification in organizations. They presented a comprehensive canvas that summarizes the most important issues from the wealth of data collected during GAMIFY. The guiding questions help anyone who wants to implement gamification in their organization to identify hidden pitfalls and avoid them from derailing their efforts.
On the second day, Kiril Ivanov and Prof. Breuer presented their paper “Design Patterns to Teach and Learn about Gamification for Innovation”. The full collection of 36 design patterns will soon be available to support teachers, coaches, learners, innovation managers and game developers to enhance their skills in designing games and using gamification for innovation. These will be the main areas of application for GAMIFY – and there were several positive comments from conference participants about the value creation potential that the sample collection will offer.
On the third and final day of the conference, Kiril Ivanov and Prof. Breuer presented the GAMIFY training course, which aims to introduce innovation practitioners and trainers to the world of gamification. The course uses design patterns and a hands-on learning approach to engage participants in designing games and game-like formats that respond to real-world innovation challenges.
