For the practical project, the course was divided into two groups. While one group created a blog with current topics related to the adventure farm, the second group took care of the website for the Gertrudenhof animal sanctuary. The aim of the project was also to give the students practical experience by learning what it is like to work for a real customer.
In Julia Schäffner’s module, the students also had the task of creating and testing online marketing campaigns. This practical approach enabled the students to gain extensive experience in dealing with technical implementations, designing websites and conducting marketing campaigns.
The Gertrudenhof, known for its sustainable agriculture and diverse range of experiences, offered a unique context for the project with its warm atmosphere. At the beginning of the semester, owner Peter Zens gave a tour of the farm and a question and answer session was held over drinks and delicious food. When visiting the farm, the students were impressed by the size, the well-kept appearance and the attention to detail.
A few months later, the students presented their projects and the customer Peter Zens was thrilled. He emphasized how important the students‘ fresh perspectives are for successfully integrating modern topics such as social media, blogs and websites into the daily routine of a farm. The collaboration proved to be a valuable eye-opener for the Gertrudenhof, as it helped to strengthen and further develop the digital image of the farm. Overall, the project was a great success and an enriching experience for everyone involved. The plan is to work on another project in collaboration with the Gertrudenhof next semester.
