Participatory dialog format for Berlin urban planning
On the occasion of the current discussion about the rededication and redesign of Berlin’s Friedrichstraße, students of the B.A. Media and Event Management program at Media University Berlin have developed a participatory format for urban planning.

The result is a concept that aims to create a practical dialog between the relevant stakeholders. The format includes on-site meetings of the participants as well as decentralized online phases, which are made possible with the help of digital collaboration tools.
To develop the format, numerous participation methods from urban planning as well as conference and workshop planning approaches were evaluated and transferred to the situation on Friedrichstrasse.
In addition, marketing analysis methods were used to prepare the dialog format – for example through a newly developed stakeholder model and the use of persona models.
The use of 3D prototypes and a multidimensional documentation concept are intended to illustrate the results, motivate exchange and ensure sustainable safeguarding of the results.
The concept was developed as part of a practical module in the B.A. Media and Event Management course during the winter semester 2022/2023 and was led by Prof. Dr. Lorenz Pöllmann. The following students were involved in the development Vi Anh Dang, Cassidy Eisenschmidt, Vanessa Elliger, Paulina Enßlen Tashina Franz, Yasmine Gaha, Che Gehrke, Joceline Helbig, Leontine Kaschura, Amadeo Löder, Nils Lude, Moritz Mahler, Julia Munz, Lelaina Preis, Mara Schmitt, Felix Stoppenbrink, Michelle Völker and Luisa von Schwander.
