The Media University’s Master’s program in Public Relations and Digital Marketing (M.A.) qualifies students to work in the new communication professions that are emerging as a result of the digital transformation process in our society and culture. A wide range of new fields of activity have emerged, particularly at the interface between public relations, corporate and marketing communication, for which there are hardly any established job titles: social media editor, influencer, YouTuber, etc.

These are future-oriented professions for which the program prepares students intensively by focusing on application-oriented research and the professional use of digital communication techniques, especially in the so-called social media, embedded in integrated corporate and marketing communication.

Course content and teaching

The master’s program is the first German program to combine PR and digital marketing. It offers specializations in: corporate and financial communications, NGOs, associations and foundations, public administration and political communications. The program prepares students for the real world with courses such as rhetoric, presentations, viral campaigns and camera training.

Modules

General elective modules: Empirical Social Research, Media Law, Business English, Converging Technological Trends, Media Production, Gamification and Games for Organizations, Intercultural Leadership Skills and Media Psychology

Subject-specific modules: Methodology (Market Research, Consumer Behavior and Applied PR Research Methods), Public Relations (PR Theories and Models, PR Communication Fields, New Trends and PR Research, Strategic Communication, Applied Strategic Communication and PR Practice Labs) and Digital Marketing (Fundamentals of Digital Marketing, Integrated Marketing Communication, Social Media Marketing and Digital Marketing Lab)

Your profile

Applicants: graduates of an undergraduate degree program (Bachelor’s, Diplom, Magister) in a communication-, media- or marketing-oriented subject.

Dual studies – study and job

At the Media University, the Master’s program in Public Relations and Digital Marketing is also offered as a dual program: The master’s degree (M.A.) can be achieved in four semesters in a dual-practice-integrating manner (without additional IHK examination). „Dual-practice-integrating” means that students work in a cooperating company parallel to their studies. In addition to imparting theoretical knowledge, practical business projects are integrated into the course of study. The Media University supports applicants in finding a cooperating company based on its own corporate network.

Credit

If you already have 210 ECTS credits from your undergraduate studies, the program can be shortened by one semester

The Master’s program in Public Relations and Digital Marketing (M.A.) at the Media University is state-approved by the Berlin Senate Administration and accredited by the German Accreditation Council.
