Discover the latest trends in marketing and e-commerce at Media University

August 23, 2022

Small courses, individual support and the prospect of exciting practical projects convinced Leonie Hübsch to study for a B.A. Digitales Marketing und E-Commerce (B.A. in Digital Marketing and E-Commerce, German only). Here she talks about her everyday life as a student and her plans for the near future.

Leonie Hübsch

Why did you choose the “B.A. Digitales Marketing und E-Commerce” (B.A. Digital Marketing and E-Commerce, German only) degree program? And why did you choose Media University Berlin?

It was clear to me quite early on that I wanted to study something to do with marketing, as I found the diversity offered by the combination of topics from the fields of business, psychology and communication exciting. So I researched where in Germany I could study for a Bachelor’s degree in marketing. I came across the Media University with its “Digital Marketing and E-Commerce” course.

I found the combination with e-commerce interesting, as the two fields are closely related, which you always notice during your studies.

I was also most impressed by the module plan at the Media University, as a lot of emphasis is placed on practical projects during the course. In addition, the central location in Berlin, the small course size and the professors with practical experience also convinced me of Media University Berlin.

Which project/module/course have you liked best so far?

It’s difficult for me to decide which course was the best. I’m wavering between the courses “Consumer Behavior” and “User Experience”. In “Consumer Behavior” we went much deeper into behavior and thought patterns and became a bit more psychological. Whereas in “User Experience” we were taught new knowledge in a very practical way. We were able to carry out our own usability tests and try out eye-tracking.

Apart from that, I always enjoyed the guest lectures by experts or companies that were spread throughout the course, as they gave us completely different insights.

Have you already gained some work experience that you would like to tell us about?

As part of a working student job, I developed an affiliate marketing concept for an agency’s software product. First of all, operational decisions had to be made. For example, how sensible it is to use an affiliate network. Then the process was outlined in detail and the first partners were sought.

What advice would you give to students who decide to study at the Media University?

Be patient at the beginning. In the first few semesters in particular, a lot of basic modules are taught that don’t always relate to the Digital Marketing and E-Commerce course. The more exciting courses come later. Be prepared to write a term paper instead of an exam. Otherwise, you don’t have to worry too much beforehand. You can always contact the lecturers and they are also open to suggestions for improvement. You can help shape your studies to a certain extent. It depends on your motivation.

Your Bachelor’s thesis is coming up soon: What are you working on and how did you come up with the topic?

I haven’t defined my exact topic yet. I’m currently very interested in the development of the metaverse or the use of virtual and augmented reality technologies in marketing and e-commerce. I am particularly interested in how these new trends are received by consumers. Before I start writing my Bachelor’s thesis, I still have my practical semester ahead of me. Maybe that will give me another new idea.

What are your plans for after you graduate?

I haven’t decided that yet either. I’ve definitely decided that I want to do a Master’s degree. Whether I do it straight after my Bachelor’s degree or work for a year first depends on how the internship goes.

Thank you for the insights into your studies at the Media University. All the best for your internship and your Bachelor’s thesis!
