Interactive learning with a high practical relevance

May 19, 2020

David Jüngling is in his 2nd semester of the Master in Business Psychology. How does he like his studies so far, which courses does he find particularly interesting and what are his plans for after graduating? He answers these and other questions in this interview.

David Jüngling is studying business psychology at the Humboldt University of Berlin.

What do you particularly like about your studies at the Media University so far? And why did you choose to study Business Psychology?

For several reasons: a small course of study and lecturers with practical experience create an interactive learning atmosphere in which there is always room for questions and discussion. The group is very international due to the English-language master’s program, which is often very stimulating and opens up new perspectives. What I find exciting about business psychology is the connection between theoretical knowledge and practical application, for example when it comes to the use of smartphones and their effects on our cognition.

And that’s where I think the university’s media affinity is great: a lot of the content always has the current and future changes in our digitalized world in mind, which of course are also reflected in our working world to a great extent. But extracurricular courses, such as working on an own show (the first episode of Talent Campus_Video on YouTube) and journalistic content, are also super exciting. All in all, it’s an exciting and interactive study program with a high level of practical relevance!

Even in the time so heavily dominated by the coronavirus, the Media University responded quickly and switched completely to online teaching without any loss of content. I find that very positive and indicative of the university’s commitment.

Alongside his studies, David Jüngling is involved in the film workshop Talent Campus_Video, which regularly takes place at the MU Berlin.

Which course do you particularly enjoy attending? And which upcoming project/module/seminar are you looking forward to?

I find Human Resources & Organizational Management particularly exciting because it covers topics such as change management, which combines individual psychological aspects of employees with the perspective of the organization as a whole. I actually found statistics interesting too – even though some of my fellow students would probably disagree with me on that. But the teaching was really successful here too, with lots of examples and exercises.

I'm also looking forward to the project module next semester, because we'll be able to put our skills to the test in our own research project.

What is the first thing that comes to mind when you think of the Media University? Describe the Media University in one sentence:

The lecturers are very student-oriented, the content is diverse and relevant, and there are exciting activities outside of the regular classes.

What are your plans for the future?

Since I am currently doing an apprenticeship as a systemic coach alongside my studies, I can well imagine using the practical skills I have learned there with my theoretical background in my future work in a human resources department or in a consulting firm. Part of the work should also include moderating workshops and other events related to change processes in organizations, groups and individuals. But first: I still have two semesters to go and then I will write an exciting master’s thesis.

Thank you for the interesting conversation and the insights into your studies, David. We wish you continued success at the Media University and all the best for the future.
