Practical introduction to the world of digital marketing and e-commerce
Léon Brunetzki-Strunk is in his first semester of studying B.A. Digitales Marketing und E-Commerce (B.A. Digital Marketing and E-Commerce, German only) at the Media University Berlin. Here he talks about what he likes most about his studies so far, which courses he is particularly enthusiastic about and what tips he would like to give prospective students for their application.
You are a freshman in the B.A. Digitales Marketing und E-Commerce (B.A. Digital Marketing and E-Commerce) course. So the application phase wasn’t that long ago: Why did you choose to study at Media University?
I did my Abitur at a vocational high school. My focus there was on organization and office management, which is how I came into contact with marketing. I always enjoyed taking this course. After graduating, I didn’t know exactly what I wanted to do, but it definitely had to be something to do with marketing. Then Corona came along and I saw how enormously the e-commerce industry has grown. Since two of my friends are already studying at Media University, I became aware of Media University relatively quickly.
The semester started online due to the pandemic. Can you still give a first impression of how the course will work?
Yes, of course. Now in the first semester there is an introduction. You get an insight into how marketing actually works. Then you learn how to deal with data and statistics, how to create them and interpret them. In economics, we learned how the economy is structured and how everything works there. For me, it’s one of my favorite modules. You also learn how to write academic papers, which is very important later for your bachelor’s degree, etc. In the next semesters, you go into more depth.
Which project/course are you looking forward to or which project/course have you liked the most so far? Why?
For me, marketing and economics were my favorites. As I already mentioned, I already have knowledge of marketing. So it was nice to go into some things in more depth and learn new things. What I liked about economics was that you got an insight into how the economy works. How everything is connected so that a society or economy functions well.
What do you like about studying at the Media University in general?
I also like that you can ask questions in the lectures and the professors and lecturers are always available afterwards. The fact that the courses are not too big is also a real advantage. This means you don’t get lost in the crowd and you get individual attention.
Do you already have a specific career goal or at least an idea for the internship?
I don’t have a specific career goal yet. I think that will come over the course of my studies. First of all, I’m concentrating on my studies. I still have a little time to make my career goal more concrete.
What tips would you give to prospective students?
Thank you for the insight into your first semester at Media University. All the best for the rest of your studies!
