For Students: Green Office

Media University’s Green Office is a central institution that deals with issues of environmental sustainability and actively supports compliance with the university’s ESG goals. ESG stands for “Environmental, Social and Governance”. The Green Office plays a key role in the implementation and monitoring of the environmental targets set by the university.

Newent magazine by Media University students: photos were collected from fellow students documenting waste pollution at festivals. Measures for sustainable festival visits were also developed.

The Media University’s ecological ESG measures include the promotion of environmentally conscious campus life. For example, great importance is attached to energy efficiency and resource conservation. An important focus here is on reducing the carbon footprint, for example by using renewable energies and optimizing building technology to minimize energy losses. Another goal is to promote sustainable mobility, for example by supporting the use of bicycles.

Work is also being done to reduce waste and strengthen the circular economy. The university focuses on recycling, sustainable procurement and avoiding single-use plastic. Through various initiatives, the Green Office also promotes awareness and commitment among students and employees for sustainable action in everyday life.

The Media University’s Green Office ensures that environmental sustainability is not just a theoretical concept, but is firmly integrated into the university’s practice and culture. By implementing these measures, the Media University actively contributes to environmental protection and compliance with global sustainability standards.

Issues relating to environmental sustainability are regularly the subject of research work and study projects at the Media University. In summer 2019, students on the Bachelor’s degree course in Media and Event Management published the magazine Newent in cooperation with students on the Masters program in Communication Design and Creative Strategies, which deals with issues relating to waste avoidance at festivals.

Under the direction of Prof. Nora Bibel, an innovative project was realized in collaboration with Solidarity International during the Media University’s Design Project Week in the summer semester of 2024. The students worked on global learning approaches with a focus on climate change and climate justice, particularly in relation to water. The aim of the project was to make complex topics such as climate justice understandable for young people aged 12 to 15 and to motivate them to take sustainable action.
