The Media University was founded in 2008 (under the name HMKW – Hochschule für Medien, Kommunikation und Wirtschaft). It is a private, state-recognized university and institutionally accredited by the German Council of Science and Humanities. All current degree programs are accredited by FIBAA or are in the process of being accredited. MU has campuses in Berlin and Cologne and, since the 2016/17 winter semester, also in Frankfurt am Main. Since summer 2020, the university has been part of the European university network ADE.
The university offers Bachelor’s and Master’s degree programs in the fields of journalism and communication, management and business studies, design, psychology and humanities. The range of courses is characterized in particular by double degree courses such as “Visual Communication and Graphic Design”, “Public Relations and Digital Marketing” and “International Marketing and Media Management”. The university thus offers its graduates a valuable education that qualifies them as attractive career starters for several industries.
To ensure that our graduates successfully enter the job market, we place particular emphasis on practical experience: we combine a solid academic education with work in a wide range of practical projects. To this end, we cooperate with numerous institutions and business organizations that supplement the academic curriculum with very real issues and project tasks. These cooperations and projects include the regular project week in Berlin, which has been implemented with renowned partners such as ZDF (German public television station), Sony and Deutsche Welle. Student MU productions are shown and broadcast online, on television or on the radio.
The courses are specifically geared towards the acquisition of theoretical understanding and practically applicable skills. At the end of their studies, our graduates have a broad range of demonstrable skills, which sets them apart from other job applicants.
Those who wish to gain experience abroad during their studies are supported by the university: The university has been participating in the Erasmus program since 2013 and is committed to exchange and cooperation with European and non-European students and universities. Our network of European partner universities is constantly growing.
Our professors and all teaching staff actively support our students on their way through their studies and into the job market. We are successful as a university when our alumni are successful! Studying at the Media University is challenging but rewarding.
