B.A. Project: „The Art Gorgeous“ print magazine
Till Theißen, B.A. graduate from Media University Berlin, developed the concept and layout for the print version of the Hong Kong-based online art magazine “The Art Gorgeous”. His thesis was awarded as best of the year in B.A. Graphic Design and Visual Communication.
The practise-oriented thesis was supervised by Prof. Andine Müller and Prof. Dr. Lorenz Pöllmann. In the theoretical section, Till Theißen analysed the design of fine art magazines by comparing eight different regular publications dedicated to art world related topics. Using mood boards for his empirical research, he identified two broad trends: magazines with a strict focus on fine arts and a rather conservative layout vs. magazines with a reference to lifestyle and a more progressive editorial design.
Building on his findings, Till Theißen designed a print dummy for “The Art Gorgeous”, an online magazine within the realm of arts and lifestyle and a strong focus on art world fashion trends. So far, three issues based on Till Theißen’s work have been released. The print magazine was first launched at Art Basel Hong Kong.
