What comes to mind when you think about your studies at Media University?

Small university with familiar atmosphere

You acquired a Bachelor of Arts in Media and Event Management at Media University Berlin. What is your current job position?

I work as event and project manager at the agency facts and fiction.

Did you get any further work experiences prior to your current position that you would like to share with us?

During my studies I completed a compulsory internship in the Office of the Federal President, which enabled me to get to know my current employer, the facts and fiction agency. I was hired there after my graduation.

When did you figure out your preferred career path? How much was your choice influenced by the compulsory internship?

For me, the internship was essential. Without it, I wouldn't have my current job today. I was an exception in my course of study, though, to be honest.

Why did you decide to study “Media and Event Management”? And what made you choose Media University Berlin?

Since the course did not yet exist at a state university I chose to study at Media University. Media University was one of the only universities that offered this course of studies at that time and for which the price-performance ratio was suitable.

Which contents of your studies are part of your current job? How do your studies help you in your work routine?

In the courses of Prof. Dr. Lorenz Pöllmann I was able to gain a lot of practical experience in the organization of small events, among other things in event practice and event business.

What are your plans for the future?

I would like to continue to gain experience with the agency and later work for an NGO. In addition, I might want to do a master's degree.

What do you like most about your current job position? What is your biggest challenge?

Communicating and working with many different people is challenging but at the same time valuable for me personally. I learn to cope with the most diverse situations and not to lose my nerves. But above all, teamwork is that certain something that makes me very happy at the end of a successful project.

Which professional projects that you currently supervise do you particularly like?

The Bürgerfest des Bundespräsidenten 2020, an exhibition stand for the Ministry of Education and Research at IFAT 2020.

Could you tell us more about the application phase after your graduation?

I was asked directly whether I wanted to work as a junior at facts and fiction and did not have to apply at all. I am now a project manager and lead my own projects.

What would you tell fellow students that study at Media University?

Take contacts and ideas from your studies into professional life and use the time during your studies!

Which characteristics should students have that want to study „B.A. Media and Event Management“?

Organizational and structured work is the ideal basis for planning events and projects, which can then be supplemented by creative skills. However, it is also necessary to be open for new people and the desire to communicate should not be missing.

Thank you for taking the time for this conversation, Ms Mahler. We wish you all the best for the future.
