What comes to mind when you think about your studies at Media University?

The jam session during the event week: My first event ever, which I co-organized in the seminar “Practice of Event Industry” by Prof. Dr. Lorenz Pöllmann. On this evening I also played as a DJ for the first time.

You acquired a Bachelor of Arts in Media and Event Management at Media University Berlin. What is your current job position?

I work as a freelance journalist at the club culture magazine Groove and as an editor in content and social media management at ASK HELMUT.

Did you get any further work experiences prior to your current position that you would like to share with us?

Prior to my current job I was an intern and then a working student at Clubcommission Berlin e.V. I implemented the Instagram account and participated in a survey about club culture.

When did you figure out your preferred career path? How much was your choice influenced by the compulsory internship?

There was no exact moment I could indicate. It was more of a process. Two of my fellow students encouraged me to produce music, so I drifted more and more into the music world. Then I wrote more and more papers on music topics, did my mandatory internship in the music industry, until I wrote my bachelor thesis on the scene economy. With this knowledge I then knew what could interest me in the professional world.

Why did you decide to study “Media and Event Management”? And what made you choose Media University Berlin?

Because the study program B.A. Media and Event Management is a perfect mix of practice and theory - and opens the doors for almost all sectors in the cultural and creative industries in its own specific way, giving you the opportunity to open the doors completely.

Which contents of your studies are part of your current job? How do your studies help you in your work routine?

Setting up a milestone plan for self-organization and organizing for events as well as the special relationship between the company and the specific target group. Basically, audience development is a very relevant aspect of my work.

What are your plans for the future?

I don't have any exact plans yet. But I'm curious to see where it will take me.

What do you like most about your current job position? What is your biggest challenge?

I appreciate the direct contact to the artists, organizers, communication managers or owners of a venue very much. Always thinking one step ahead still is very challenging sometimes.

Could you tell us more about the application phase after your graduation?

I applied primarily to jobs I was passionate about. I read Groove Magazine before I started working as an editor there. Everything was based on my own interest.

What would you tell fellow students that study at Media University?

To take as much of your studies with you as you can: get in contact with professors, talk about your own preferences, tackle projects with fellow students, etc. The Media University enables you to study under private conditions. Why not take advantage of this?

Which characteristics should students have that want to study „B.A. Media and Event Management“?

The ability to work in a team, being open to new ideas and creativity are characteristics that are advantageous.

Mr Linke, thank you very much for the interesting interview. We wish you all the best for your professional and private future.
