What comes to mind when you think about your studies at Media University?

Many years of friendship, wonderful practical projects and my first own apartment in Berlin.

You acquired a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism and Corporate Communications at Media University Berlin. What is your current job position?

I now work as Social Sales Manager at ProSiebenSat.1 in the Marketing & Creation department.

Did you get any further work experiences prior to your current position that you would like to share with us?

After my bachelor's degree at Media University, I applied for quite a few internships in Berlin and Munich. It took a long time, then I was offered the internship at ProSiebenSat.1 and I stayed.

When did you figure out your preferred career path? How much was your choice influenced by the compulsory internship?

That the field of marketing is exciting to me has become clear over the course of time. I did my internship in the HR department of a company in Hungary. There I realized how different the communication strategies are, especially in other countries like Hungary.

Above all, my bachelor's thesis has made a great contribution to my career aspirations. I wrote about strategies in social media in relation to professional footballers and I really enjoyed it. That's why I thought to myself: Why not get a taste of this field in practice?

Why did you decide to study “Journalism and Corporate Communications”? And what made you choose Media University Berlin?

I was very much interested in the combination of journalism and corporate communications. Back then, German and business were my favourite subjects at school. I had my best grades, too. And I thought that studying was the perfect way to start. I choose Media University for two main reasons: Berlin is an exciting location and this study program does not exist anywhere else in Germany.

Which contents of your studies are part of your current job? How do your studies help you in your work routine?

Currently, the diversity offered by this course of studies is particularly important to me. I acquired skills in photo and video editing (Adobe Premiere, Photoshop) as well as analysing and preparing data in Excel.

What are your plans for the future?

I am enjoying my current job very much. But in the future I would like work in the field of data analysis and performance marketing.

What do you like most about your current job position? What is your biggest challenge?

I am currently working at the interface between editing, marketing and sales. This is both a curse and a blessing at the same time. I have many different contacts within the company. That can sometimes be exhausting. At the same time, I have a great range to bring my knowledge and that of my team into the company.

Could you tell us more about the application phase after your graduation?

The first job hunt, i.e. after the bachelor's degree for an internship, was actually relatively tough. I wrote a lot of applications and received little feedback. But it was worth the effort: In the end I was able to do a fantastic internship and a I had a great start in a large company.

What would you tell fellow students that study at Media University?

The study programme is broadly based. And especially for job positions at the interface of different departments this can be really helpful. I am currently in a team that works on editorial, strategic and marketing issues. Allrounders are often in demand.

Which characteristics should students have that want to study „B.A. Journalism and Corporate Communications“?

Openness to new topics and a great willingness to learn and enthusiasm for things you may not yet be able to do.

Thank you for taking the time for this interview. We wish you all the best for the future.
